Jetour, Chery’s SUV sub-brand, achieved an extraordinary feat by using its luxury hybrid, the G700, to cross China’s largest river.

The G700 began its journey across the Yangtze River on October 16 to celebrate the vehicle’s launch in the Chinese market. The purpose of the stunt was to demonstrate the brand’s extraordinary vehicle capabilities.

It’s important to note that the SUV is not an amphibious vehicle. Instead, the car relied on multiple technological features to accomplish the feat, starting with a body crafted without seams or holes.

The vehicle also features an active air circulation system, a high-speed propulsion system with 800-Volt tension, and a six-axis gyroscope that adjusted the vehicle’s balance during the crossing.

The G700 traveled approximately 1,480 meters at an average speed of only 7 km/h, completing the crossing in 22 minutes, from the Heisha Zhou ferry terminal to Nanlong, both located in Wuhu, China.

Jetour’s technological SUV, often called the “Chinese Land Rover,” is powered by a 2.0-liter turbo engine producing 208 hp with dual electric motors, delivering a total of 751 hp. It can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.6 seconds.

The G700 is powered by CATL’s 4C Shenxing battery, offering a combined range of 1,400 km and fast-charging capability from 30% to 80% in just 10 minutes.

Measuring 5.19 meters long, 2.05 meters wide, 1.95 meters high, with a 2.87-meter wheelbase, it is an excellent candidate for off-road activities. Entry-level versions have 18-inch wheels, while top trims feature 20-inch wheels.

Meanwhile, the G700 can ford water up to 970 mm deep, allowing up to 40 minutes of submersion with a cabin resistant to 20 kPa water pressure and currents up to 5 m/s.

Inside, it features a 15.6-inch central screen, a 35.4-inch telescopic display, three-spoke flat-bottom steering wheel, ventilated, heated, and massaging seats, a 17.3-inch rear screen, and an internal cooler with temperatures ranging from -6°C to 50°C.
